# Working in Word

> Ask the agent to work on your open document, review its tracked changes, and keep the document in step with your vault.

## Ask the agent to work on the document

Open the **Casa Conect** panel and ask, as you would in the dashboard:

* *"Tighten clause 7 and make the notice period 30 days throughout."*
* *"Check this against our buyer-side checklist and redline anything that departs from it."*
* *"Summarize the obligations of the seller in a comment at the top."*

<Steps>
  <Step title="The add-in shares the document">
    Before each turn the add-in takes a snapshot of the open document and sends it to Casa Conect, so the agent works on exactly what you see, including changes you have not saved. If nothing has changed since the last turn, the snapshot is reused.
  </Step>

  <Step title="The agent reads and decides">
    It reads the outline and the relevant sections, searches within the document, and works out the edits. It can also draw on your vaults, matters and skills.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edits are applied as tracked changes">
    The add-in switches on Track Changes, applies the edits in a single pass, and restores your previous tracking setting. You see *"Applied 12 tracked changes to the open document."*
  </Step>

  <Step title="You review in Word">
    Use Word's **Review** tab to accept and reject. The changes are ordinary Word revisions attributed to the agent.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### When an edit cannot be applied

The add-in locates each paragraph in three ways, from most to least precise, and checks that the text is what the agent expected before it changes anything. If a paragraph has changed in the meantime, that edit is skipped rather than applied in the wrong place, and you are told: *"Applied 10 changes; 2 could not be applied — review the document."* Ask the agent to try the remaining ones again.

If you see *"N of the changes need a newer add-in version and were skipped"*, restart Word to load the latest add-in.

## Keep the document in the vault

The bar at the top of the panel shows the document's relationship with your vault.

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Save a Word document to the vault">
    Choose to save the document to Casa Conect and pick a vault and folder. The add-in *saves a copy of this document to your Casa Conect vault and keeps it autosaving from Word, so the agent and your team always see the latest version*. The bar then shows *"Synced to the vault — autosave is on"* and the time of the last autosave.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Open a vault document in Word">
    From the dashboard, choose **Open in Word** on a `.docx`. Open the downloaded file in Word. *It stays linked to the vault — saving from the Casa Conect add-in adds new versions.* You can also open a vault document from inside the panel.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

The link travels **inside the file**. You can move it, rename it or email it to yourself, and it still knows which vault document it belongs to.

### When two people change the same document

| You see | It means | What to do |
| :-------------------------------------------------- | :------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | :----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Newer version in the vault** | Someone saved a newer version while your copy was closed | Reload the latest version before editing |
| **Sync paused — the vault copy changed** | Someone saved a newer version *while you were editing* | Keep your work **as a copy**, or reload the latest version. Your edits are never overwritten silently. |
| **This file belongs to a different vault document** | The file is linked to another document, for example a copy of a colleague's file | Save it as a new vault document |

Each save from Word appears in the document's [version history](/documents/vault#versions) as **Saved from Word**.

## Steer a Word session from the dashboard

A conversation started in Word also appears in the dashboard, marked as open in Word: *"This session is open in Word. Steer it from here — while the document stays open in Word, the agent's edits land in it live."*

If you close Word partway through, the dashboard shows *"Word disconnected — edits apply when the document reopens."* Nothing is lost. The pending edits are applied the next time the document is open in Word.

## Workflows in Word

[Populate](/workflows/populate) and [Anonymize](/workflows/anonymize) are available from the panel, with the same staged progress and the same review of values before anything is written.

## Tips

* **Accept or reject before the next big request.** A document full of unresolved changes is harder for you and for the agent to read.
* **Use desktop Word for editing.** Word on the web cannot always share the open document with an add-in. If it cannot, the add-in tells you, and the agent can still answer questions.
* **Large documents.** The open document must be under 15 MB. If yours is larger, compress its images with **Picture Format → Compress Pictures**.
* **Need help?** The panel's menu has **Help**, which writes to support, and **Manage Account**, which opens the dashboard.
